At the beginning of 2012 I sat down and wrote some specific goals I had for Shalimar Studios.  I am not a huge fan of only making new year's resolutions, I have always made goals throughout the year and little by little adjusting them as I inch closer to them.  But one specific goal I made this year was to challenge myself with concept photo shoots where each image collectively leads to a specific storyline.  I wanted to push myself creatively, conceptually and in production to pull off what I consider photographing larger productions for my photo shoots.

This idea first came to my attention when I was mentoring 2 local aspiring photographers Kristine and Marissa.  They are young, vibrant and their creativity will take them far in this industry.  We conceptualized an Alice in Wonderland photo shoot utilizing the resources we had at the time.  It wasn't until January of this year that this shoot took place and I can not be happier with the end result.  I want to thank models, Kristine (Alice), Marissa (Evil Queen) and Tanner (Mad Hatter) for their hard work and preparataion, Your Beauty Call for their fabulous hair and makeup on each character, and my post-production go-to-guy, Rob.

So, without further ado, here's my first conceptual photo shoot of 2012, I call Wonderland.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT yasmin

I believe in real moments and chasing sunsets. In the kinds of images that remind you of the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments.

I believe in creating images that demand to be printed—framed in fine art materials and displayed as the heirlooms they're meant to become. My approach is both editorial and intimate, capturing not just faces but the emotional landscape of your life. Each portrait is thoughtfully composed to reveal your authentic story while honoring the beauty of the world around you. Your journey is extraordinary and entirely your own, and I'm here to preserve it with the artistry it deserves.
