Have Camera and Passport, Will Travel

One of my goals for 2013 was to make travel a priority again.  I've been traveling internationally since I was 5 years old, and I firmly believe it is one of the core activities that has molded me to who I am today.  A citizen and student of the world is what I consider myself, and there isn't a country I wouldn't want to visit.  The ability to visit vastly different cultures, history, food and landscapes will pull out of each of us something we never knew existed and makes us better people.  Over the years I've been a big proponent of travel, especially international travel, yet I could never find the words to accurately convey my feelings.  Recently my friend Beau posted on Facebook the article, “Why you should quite your job and travel now.”  I'm not encouraging others to quit their jobs unprepared, but it perfectly expresses what every seasoned traveler experiences and why we always go back for more.

So after some hard core preparations, sacrifices and a lot of planning, I made the leap and have put New York, Milwaukee, Switzerland, Italy, LA, various parts of Arizona (Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Prescott and Page), Kenya, Turkey and India on my calendar.  Who knows, a few more may pop up in the mean time.  I don't know how to express how grateful I am to be able to do what I love and travel, especially because travel is how I first discovered photography and self-expression through that art form.  Periodically I'll be posting images from my travels here on the blog, on Facebook and also through my Instagram account, and I invite you share in those journies with me.

Here's a few images from my stop through Milwaukee a couple weeks ago where I photographed the Calatrava designed Art Museum on the shores of Lake Michigan.  It is literally a 2 minute walk from my parent's condo and each time I have gone to visit I say I'll shoot it the next time I visit.  Well, determined to some images this time, I went out on a blustery and humid evening with the clouds rolling in.  With the winds picking up and my hair growing from the humidity, I had just a few 15 minutes to capture what I could.  Due to the high winds the wings of the building were tucked in and not fully extended, however I still think it made for some interesting images.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT yasmin

I believe in real moments and chasing sunsets. In the kinds of images that remind you of the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments.

I believe in creating images that demand to be printed—framed in fine art materials and displayed as the heirlooms they're meant to become. My approach is both editorial and intimate, capturing not just faces but the emotional landscape of your life. Each portrait is thoughtfully composed to reveal your authentic story while honoring the beauty of the world around you. Your journey is extraordinary and entirely your own, and I'm here to preserve it with the artistry it deserves.
