Capturing the Moment

As photographers there are often times when we know that a moment is happening that we need to capture.  Sometimes they are joyous moments, sometimes they are romantic moments, and sometimes they are thought-provoking moments.  And as a photographer I strive to capture those moments so that they are documented and tell a story in and of themselves.

That is why the following image spoke so deeply to me.  It is of my grandmother sitting next to the casket of my aunt who had recently passed away.  The sadness and pain that you see, is displayed in her body language of losing her daughter.  However her own story is told just by looking at her hands and face.  Each and every wrinkle has a story to tell of her childhood, her life growing up in rural Pakistan where she married and raised 2 children.  She witnessed the birth of 7 grandchildren and the birth of 4 great-grandchildren, and was happily married for over 62 years when my grandfather passed away.

Although I am deeply connected to this woman because she is my grandmother, I hope that this picture speaks to and shares her story.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT yasmin

I believe in real moments and chasing sunsets. In the kinds of images that remind you of the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments.

I believe in creating images that demand to be printed—framed in fine art materials and displayed as the heirlooms they're meant to become. My approach is both editorial and intimate, capturing not just faces but the emotional landscape of your life. Each portrait is thoughtfully composed to reveal your authentic story while honoring the beauty of the world around you. Your journey is extraordinary and entirely your own, and I'm here to preserve it with the artistry it deserves.
