My foundation in photography was born of my passion as the family archivist. Feverishly learning about my elders and ancestors, birthed my interest in documenting and preserving my immediate family members. And so at any family gathering, whether it be small or big, I capture the fun and candid moments along side some more formal portraits.
Knowing these images will long outlive us, I cherish these moments now, as many years down the road there will be a family member just like me, who wants to know our stories. Having the opportunity in front of me to see in real time how we’ve changed, grown and evolved, makes me feel I’m witnessing history as it happens.
This portrait of my younger brother Jamil with his son Zarek, melted my heart as I compared it to those I’ve taken in the past. This is what life is about. And my nephew will have a pictorial narrative, documenting his life and relationship with his best buddy, his dad. See below for their portraits from throughout the years.
