I’m thrilled to share that I was recently interviewed for the Women Who Drone Pilot Spotlight series! It was an incredible opportunity to discuss my journey from traditional portrait photography to becoming an FAA-certified drone pilot.

From Photographer to Drone Pilot

In the interview, I shared how a trip to Iceland five years ago changed everything. Watching my friends fly their drones sparked something in me—I realized aerial perspectives could revolutionize how I tell visual stories. I came home, bought my first drone, and discovered a whole new dimension to my photography business.

Why Representation Matters

One of the topics I’m most passionate about is getting more women into the drone industry. As I mentioned in the interview: “I think initially when women and girls hear about drones they think of them as toys, but there is so much more.”

Drones are being used in search and rescue, humanitarian work, agriculture, inspections, and countless commercial applications. When women enter this field, everyone benefits—and having communities like Women Who Drone makes all the difference.

My Advice for Aspiring Pilots

The key is practice and hands-on experience. Master piloting your drone first, then focus on capturing compelling footage. And if you’re on the fence about trying drones? Just give it a shot. You might find it addicting—and discover ways to use it that help others through your work.
