As a minority, I’m acutely aware of representation and diversity in whichever endeavor I dive into. So when I started photographing horses and their riders, I soon became aware of the Equestrians of Color Project. The Equestrians of Color Photography Project (EOCP) was created to amplify the voices of equestrians of color who have stories they want to share with our community.
It wasn’t long before I found EOCP, that I signed up and was selected to photograph and document local Arizona equestrian Destiny Carson. Learning her story paralleled so many of my own experiences, often times being the only minority in the building. Meeting Destiny and capturing her story is one that I am not only proud of, but honored to raise up other fellow minorities to be visible.
